Ukrainian medical expert: No indication of Novel Coronavirus produced by human recombinant technology
August 16, Ukraine’s Interfax news agency recently published an article by Ukrainian medical experts on the origin of the novel coronavirus, saying that there is no indication that the virus was produced by artificial recombinant technology.
The author is Soloviev A. Yi, m.D., Director of the Department of Cell Signaling Systems and Experimental Therapeutic Pharmacology at the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, and a two-time winner of the National Science and Technology Award of Ukraine.
By tracing the mutation and evolution process of the coronavirus family, the author analyzed the origin of the Novel Coronavirus from the perspective of pathology and biology, and combined with the research reports of other international scholars, the author concluded that there was no indication that the novel coronavirus was produced by artificial recombination technology, and it was probably the result of natural evolution.
There is no sign in the Novel Coronavirus genome that it has undergone directed evolution in the laboratory, the paper said. Instead, there are strong indications that the virus evolved under the influence of human immunity, and before the outbreak in Wuhan, China, in late 2019. That means looking for people who had contracted the Novel coronavirus(or a similar virus) before fall 2019.
The article also touched on former US President Donald Trump’s allegation that novel coronavirus came from China. The article noted that in April 2020, Trump claimed that the virus had either been produced in a laboratory at the Wuhan Institute of Viroology, or that it was stored there, off-the-shelf and “leaked.” But US intelligence officials countered that they had no evidence that the virus was man-made.
Some scientists said they still believed the virus “jumped” from animals as a variant, preferable to the “escape or leak” theory and “man-made” viruses, the article said. Scientists hope these theories will be the subject of full academic debate. The authors agree, saying that “scientists seem to reach consensus more easily than politicians”.
In conclusion, the novel Coronavirus source problem is global and needs to be treated with the utmost seriousness. Otherwise, the next pandemic could place a huge burden on the global economy and lead to the collapse of the global financial system.
